MFA of Bucharest considers Transnistria referendum illegal
A press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, cited by Info-Prim Neo, states that the biased decision of the illegal Transnistrian authorities to organize the September 17 referendum cannot help the international efforts to solve the Transnistrian issue.
According to the cited source, Bucharest officially considers the referendum as illegal, and the results of it as null and without any political relevance.
The document also stated that Romania reassures that it gives full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova – main ideas of any Transnistrian situation regulation initiative.
Chisinau, as well as Western countries and international organizations have announced the referendum scheduled for September 17 by the unrecognized administration from Tiraspol as illegal, and that its results will not be recognized. On the other hand, several Russian officials have stated that the referendum could be recognized by Moscow.
