Those who will not manage to reach the settlements where their relatives are buried on Low Sunday can remember them at the closest church on April 23 and 24. A circular to this effect was issued by Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and All Moldova Vladimir, IPN reports.
The Metropolitan Bishop recommends that prayers should be held in churches on Low Sunday in areas where there is no access to the cemetery and the officiating of services for the dead near graves is not possible.
“Low Sunday is a local feast to remember the dead, which is deep-rooted in the conscience of parishioners, and the services and present giving in memory of the dead can take place in churches and other places, not only at cemeteries. The faithful who celebrate Low Sunday and use to travel to other communities to get to the graves of relatives and family members are asked to commemorate the dead in neighboring churches,” says the circular.
After the snow melts, the people are asked to bring the graves in order so that services can be held later there.
On Sunday, April 23, the dead will be remembered after the liturgical service, while on Monday, April 24, at the traditional hour for each community apart.
