His Holiness Petru, the Metropolitan Bishop of Bessarabia, Archpriest of Chisinau and Exarch of Land, will fetch the Holy Fire from Jerusalem through the Iasi International Airport on April 23, IPN reports.
The Holy Fire from Jerusalem will be brought to Moldova with the assistance of the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau. The bishops, archpriests and church employees are invited to the Head Office of the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia situated at 161, 31 August 1989 St, starting at 7pm, to welcome His Holiness Petru and to receive Holy Fire so that this is taken to all the churches by 12 midnight and is later transmitted to the parishioners.
“On Holy Saturday, the Holy Fire starts to burn on the Tomb of Our Lord Jesus Christ during the Vespers. One evening earlier, the police in Israel examine the Holy Tomb to see if it does not contain any source of fire. Following checks, all the candles are put out and the door of the Holy Tomb is closed,” the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia notes in a press release.
His Holiness Vladimir, the Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and all Moldova, said that the situation this year is difficult owing to the state of emergency and the limitation of flights, but solutions are being looked for to bring the Holy Fire.
This year Easter is celebrated on April 24.
