Meteorologists announce - heat wave to slightly calm in weekend
The heat wave that scorched Europe for a week, and touched softly the borders of Moldova, will still last the following 3 days, yet will slightly decrease.
According to sources from the Hydro-Meteorological State Service, the pick of the heat, of 35 degrees, was registered on Thursday in the afternoon. On Friday, the temperature in the afternoon, in Chisinau, will be around 30 degrees.
Even if in weekend it is expected a light decrease in temperatures, meteorologists say that the thermal comfort indicator will still remain critical. Discomfort will be felt in the night as well.
Data colleted in 1886-2004 by the Hydro-Meteorological Service show that the highest temperatures in this period were registered in 1895 (+36.6); and the lowest – in 1952 (+10,1 degrees).
According to Silvia Babara, doctor coordinator of the Emergency Service, along these days, the number of calls for first aid increased, by 100-120 calls a day. Cardio-vascular cases, as well as sunstroke cases increased lately. The ambulance doctors note that no casualties as result of the heat were registered.
According to Romanian press, 7 persons have died these days in Romania, due to unbearable temperatures, and in Europe, where the thermometers show temperatures of roughly 40 the number of victims is of 80 persons.
Europe has been hit by such torrid temperatures before. The heat wave in 2003 claimed thousands of deaths, 15,000 in France.
