Metalferos says Prosecutor General ‘has been deliberately misled’

The administration of Metalferos says it is concerned about the latest “public attacks” by Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo against the company.

After the Prosecutor General today announced that the government had been defrauded of 1.2 billion lei over the years in the Metalferos scheme, the company responded by saying Alexandr Stoianoglo “has been deliberately misled by certain people with an obvious interest to malign and ruin Metalferos.”

“We are deeply upset that all our recent attempts to obtain an objective investigation of all the information about the company have ended in the unwillingness of the relevant agencies to do so.

“We would like to emphasize that all the information about the alleged damage to the state budget caused by Metalferos is not ascertained by the competent bodies, but is based on assumptions and gossip. We ask the fiscal bodies or other competent bodies to conduct the necessary investigations in order to refute all the false information communicated about the company,” Metaferos said in a statement.

Metalferos is asking a correct and objective investigations of all the allegations against it.

Alexandr Stoianoglo in particular said that Metalferos had worked with a chain of privileged intermediary companies to embezzle money from a scrap metal monopoly.
