Members of the European Parliament in Chisinau: Implement the conditions for EU accession

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are urging Moldovan authorities to maintain the momentum in fulfilling the necessary conditions for accession to the European Union. These messages were conveyed by members of the delegation from the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, who were received at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Minister Mihai Popsoi. The delegation is led by Committee Chairman David McAllister and includes MEPs Sven Mikser, Andrzej Halicki, Marta Temido, and Cristian Terhes, IPN reports.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the MEPs praised the reforms undertaken by Chisinau and reaffirmed the European Parliament's support, reflected in the largest EU assistance package granted to Moldova since its independence.

Discussions at the Ministry focused on Moldova's EU accession process as well as security and defense issues, given the ongoing war in Ukraine and multiple crises in Europe.

The Moldovan Foreign Minister welcomed the agreement reached on February 19 between the European Parliament, the European Commission, and the Council of the European Union on the Moldova Growth and Resilience Facility, worth €1.9 billion. He expressed confidence that this support would help Moldova accelerate reforms, boost the economy, and strengthen resilience in the face of increasing challenges.

In this context, the Moldovan official highlighted the efforts made by the authorities to advance on the path to EU accession, emphasizing the progress achieved so far and expressing hope that negotiations on multiple accession clusters would open in the near future.
