This year the Moldovan Export Promotion Organisation (MEPO) plans to organise a series of events to achieve objectives for promoting the exports, attracting investments and creating a positive image of Moldova. MEPO executive director Lilia Rusu stated on Tuesday, January 16, at a press conference, held by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, that participations in the most important exhibitions abroad, seminars and investment forums in Moldova and outside the country will be organised in direct cooperation with the representatives of business environment and state institutions. The most important events are “Green Week” in Germany and Wine Festival in Shanghai. Also, the series of exhibitions “Moldova Presents” will be continued in the countries that show a major interest in the local producers. It is also planned to organise “The Days of Moldova’s Economy”, similar to the last year’s event in Romania, and the traditional Investment Forum in autumn. In September 2006, MEPO has resumed its activity after it underwent a structural and functional reorganisation. While unfolding its activity, the organisation follows the tasks and objectives stipulated in the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Strategy to attract investments and promote exports in 2006-2005, adopted by the Government in October 2006. Lilia Rusu says that the new instruments used by MEPO at present in order to obtain efficient results consist in a closer cooperation with the ministries, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, “Moldexpo” IEC and “Moldova-Vin” Agency. The fact that MEPO decides on many subjects in concert with the state institutions, assistance projects, and funded by different donors such as Tacis, USAID, UNDP, is a premiere for Moldova, meant to better support the Moldovan companies. Another instrument that is considered to help in creating the country’s image is Moldova’s brand. Its promotion is expected to start in the next future. MEPO’s budget for 2007 was increased by 1 million compared to last year, totalling 3.5 mln lei. All the planned events will be financed integrally or partially by this Fund.
