Memorandum on interconnection of gas and electricity networks with Romania

The Government in Bucharest approved by a memorandum decisions that refer to the interconnection of the natural gas and electricity networks between Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Under the document, works complementary to the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau interconnection will be executed and the works on the Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline will be extended by building a Chisinau Belt gas transmission pipeline, predictably until 2031, IPN reports.

Also, the electrical energy systems between Romania and the Republic of Moldova will be interconnected through investments of strategic importance, including the 400 kV Suceava-Balti overhead power line. The station between Suceava and Balti will be extended with communication interconnections on the Huși-Cioara power line.

“Cooperation is essential for strengthening the energy security and independence. Romania was, is and will be a supporter of the Republic of Moldova through concrete projects,” said the Romanian Minister of Energy Virgil Popescu. He noted that the memorandum signed on Thursday launches a new stage of cooperation within the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
