Meeting with clashes at Chisinau Council

The May 14 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) became heated when Socialist MPs Grigore Novac and Ion Ceban and activist Vitalie Voznoi presented themselves at the discussions. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca called the police, who escorted Voznoi to the police station. The attending councilors are to make statements concerning the developments to the police, IPN reports.

MP Ion Ceban told a press briefing that he came to the CMC meeting to demand that the draft decisions on the allotment of public land should be removed from the agenda as they would cause damage of about 600 million lei to the municipality. The local councilors realize that they will not be elected for a new term and thus try to enrich themselves more from illegal transactions on the last 100 meters.

In a communique, the Chisinau City Hall expresses its concern about the actions of the MPs and the representatives of the Party of Socialists and of other politicians and activists who hindered the meeting by  treating rudely civil servants and causing disorder.

Contacted by IPN, deputy head of the Chisinau Police Division Silviu Musuc said that activist Vitalie Voznoi was escorted to the police station for questioning, while the councilors who attended the meeting will have to provide explanations about what happened. The Prosecutor’s Office will make a decision concerning the nature of those acts and will pronounce inclusively on the acts of MP Ion Cebanu, who has parliamentary immunity.
