Infertility is a painful social problem for 15% of the couples in Moldova. In other words, one in 6-7 couples cannot conceive a child and need medical assistance. Obstetrician-gynecologist Diana Al Faraj, coordinator of the In Vitro Fertilization and Women’s Health Center of the Chisinau international hospital “Medpark”, has told IPN that the causes of infertility are diverse, but the couples that want to become parents can receive in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment at “Medpark” to have their dream fulfilled.

“With the help of innovation technologies and the team of specialists, we achieved very good results in the IVF process. Last month, we had a novelty. The first twins were born at “Medpark” as a result of frozen embryo transfer,” said Diana Al Faraj.

She noted that about 50 children have been born at “Medpark” since the opening of the IVF Center. At every IVF cycle, the institution’s specialists are assisted by doctors from Turkey, who bring their experience to Moldova and help the Moldovan specialists to apply the newest treatment methods.

The gynecologist recommended the women not to delay giving birth as the chances of having a baby by IVF decreases significantly after the age of 45. For some women, the treatment can be unsuccessful even at the age of 35. The women must see a doctor to find out if they can delay giving birth or not at their age.

Within the Open Doors Day at “Medpark” last weekend, about 200 couples experiencing infertility problems were able to see what IVF means and to put questions to the specialists of “Medpark”. In a draw after the seminar, two couples became winners of certificates enabling them to receive free IVF treatment at the hospital. The other couples received discount certificates for such treatment.

Diana Al Faraj said this is the third event of the kind and the number of infertile couples attending them is on the rise. “The goal of the event is to raise awareness of infertility and to teach people correct things. The people must see a doctor when they should, not when it is too late,” she added.

An IVF treatment at the international hospital “Medpark” costs 49,000 lei. The fertilization though frozen embryo transfer costs 16,000 lei. The consultation with a specialist doctor is free. If the first IVF treatment fails, the patient benefits from a 10% discount for the next treatment cycles.
