On June 18, 8 thousand doctors together with the fellow workers, doctor’s assistants and druggists from all over the country will celebrate the Day of medical worker and druggist. The deputy Head of the Municipal Health Department, Ion Arteni, states that these people, even in hard conditions, make efforts to honor their professional duties contributing to maintaining the population healthy. The quoted source affirms that the medical workers from Chisinau managed to obtain stable activity indexes, which represents the public health condition in Chisinau, especially the general death rate that maintains at the lowest level in the Republic of Moldova. The volume of medical services offered to the primary sector exceeds 1 million 800 thousand visits only in the first 5 months of 2006. Ion Arteni says that in this period over 3400 persons were cured in Chisinau hospitals of different somatic and surgeon diseases. A first importance area for the specialized medical workers continues to be the Mother’s and children’s health, family planning and protecting the health of reproduction, states Ion Arteni. According to the statistics of the Health Department, in 2001 in the medical institutions of Chisinau were working 10600 employees, inclusively 2600 doctors and 4250 specialists with special medium education. At the beginning of 2006 the number of doctors decreased with 550 persons, and of medical assistants with 1400. The basic reason of the excessive staff fluctuation is the miserable salary, stated previously the head of the Health Department, Victor Savin , who considered that it is necessary to approve a mechanism that would encourage and motivate medical personnel, especially the doctors and the family medical assistants, young specialists. At present, the medical institutions are ensured with 72.7% of medical personnel with medium education.
