Mediation in penal cases could be also implemented in Moldova
In the Republic of Moldova the mediation in penal cases will become possible, between victims and offenders and specialized in this area – mediators. The Parliament approved in first reading the Law regarding the mediation in penal cases.
The draft law sets the principles of mediation, includes provisions that regard the initiation, suspending ways of the mediation process, delimits the circle of participants, and fixes the rights and obligations of the parts and mediators.
According to Nicolae Esanu, the vice-minister of justice, quoted by Info-Prim Neo, international practice demonstrates that mediation offers a series of advantages, both for the involved sides in the mediation process and state. For the victim, mediation constitutes a possibility to recover the material and moral prejudice and for the offender a way to be included back in the society.
If the institution of mediation will be approved in second reading it will be implemented in a year in the Chisinau municipality within a pilot-project. Further this program will be implemented on the whole territory of the country.
