MEC issued a circular to promote Holocaust Remembrance

Educational institutions in the country and public libraries will organize, from January 27-31, activities to promote the Holocaust Memorial. A circular to this effect was issued by the Ministry of Education and Research, IPN reports.

According to a MEC press release,the initiative comes to sensitize students against prejudice and injustice, promote tolerance and combat racism, anti-Semitism and other forms of intolerance.

"The Ministry addresses the entire educational community with the urge to promote Holocaust education, to raise awareness of the importance of knowledge and understanding of this massacre in which millions of people lost their lives," the press release reads.

According to the data from the Educational Management Information System (EMIS), 95 educational institutions in 28 districts and municipalities have opted for the optional subject Holocaust: history and life lessons in the academic year (2023-2024). The optional subject is studied by 1809 students from grades VII-XII, who have chosen to study this optional subject from the list of 42 optional subjects approved by the Ministry, according to the Educational Framework Plan.
