Mayoralty gave up poplar cutting in Chisinau
The Mayoralty of municipality Chisinau gave up poplar cutting in the streets of Chisinau, after the ecologists explained the illegality of trees cutting on the ground of the program signed by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and not of the plan presented by the specialists according to tests of every cut tree.
Chairman of Chisinau Territorial Ecologist Movement of Moldova, Vladimir Garaba, noted that according to legislation, the trees can be cut off only after the specialists test them, appreciate their situation, present cutting acts, which than are signed by ecologist of the locality and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. If not than any cutting is illegal.
It cannot be admitted poplar cutting, as the trees are like a screen not allowing spreading of polluting substances and noise. He mentioned that ecologists of the capital are for regeneration of damaged and ill trees, trees that affect the basis of the apartment blocs, which grew near the balconies. The last counting showed that about 2,000 such trees, all near apartment blocs and not those on the pavement, have to be cut off urgently.
All these arguments, according to Garaba, were presented on Monday; during the joint meeting of ecologists with mayoralty’s leadership a. Right after the meeting, poplar cutting was stopped including on the street Uzinelor and in the area of the Airport. Human and technical resources of Green Spaces Association were directed in districts, where there were started cutting works.
There were cut about 500 poplars during this campaign on certain streets of Chisinau – streets Uzinelor, Pan Halipa, Airport area etc.
