Mayor Chirtoaca labels cleanup efforts unsatisfactory
After unceasing discussions and action plans for almost one year, the level of city sanitation efforts remains unsatisfactory, stated Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca of Chisinau at a City Hall meeting on Monday, June 30. He reproved the cleanup crews for not coping with the increased amount of household refuse during summertime, as the garbage bins are not emptied on time, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Dionisie Boaghie, the head of the municipal department for housing and public amenities, has said that people usually use the summertime to repair their homes or build new ones, which amounts to more solid waste.
“It is good that people have something to do and produce waste. This means they use their time wisely. It is our responsibility to cope with this problem, no matter how much waste is there”, stated the mayor. According to him, the problem is related not just to rising amounts of waste, but also to the systemic shortcomings. “Emptying the containers is not enough. They also must collect the waste discarded around the bins so that the residents would not be discomforted by the sight of waste in the courtyard in the morning”, the mayor added.
Dionisie Boaghie has retorted that sanitation is not just a matter of cleanup crews doing their job well, but also the attitude of every resident of the city. “People should be responsible and acknowledge their duty to keep Chisinau clean. Only by joining efforts can we attain good results”, the functionary concluded.
