Moldova’s champion Sheriff Tiraspol and the holder of Moldova’s Cup FC Tiraspol will play the match for Moldova’s Super Cup on Sheriff Stadium on June 29, starting at 8pm, IPN reports.
“This may be the first Super Cup for us. But the game will be hard. I will use the main players, with a view to a duel in the Europa League,” FC Tiraspol coach Vlad Goian told a news conference on June 28.
“Any trophy is important as they make the team’s history. It will be an official exam before the start in the European Cups,” stated Sheriff coach Vitaliy Rashkevich.
“We are friends outside the field, but surely we all wan to win,” said FC Tiraspol halfback Nicolae Josan.
For their part, the players of Sheriff want to rehabilitate themselves before their supporters for the last year’s loss to Milsmai Orhei and to take revenge on FC Tiraspol for the elimination from Moldova’s Cup this season.
Sheriff has won four Moldova’s Super Cups, the last time in 2007, while FC Tiraspol has no Super Cup.
Next week, FC Tiraspol will meet Skonto Latvia in the first qualifying round of the Europa League. Sherriff will play the first match of the Champions League qualifiers on July 16, against Sutjeska Montenegro.
