“Martsishor – 2022” Festival to be opened by evening of master Eugen Doga

The Music Festival “Martsishor – 2022” will traditionally take place starting with March 1 and will last until March 10. The program will be opened by an evening of master Eugen Doga at the National Palace, given that the composer celebrates his birthday on March 1. Among the evening’s invitees will be Paula Seling, Irina Baianț and Vlad Miriță, IPN reports.

National Palace director Andrei Locoman said that ten concerts will be given at the National Palace as part of the festival. On March 2, there will be staged a performance to render homage to master Ion Dascăl and to celebrate the anniversary of “Mugurel” Orchestra. On March 3, an ethnic and folkloric performance devoted to the ethnic groups coexisting in Moldova will be given. On March 4, a performance will be given by the National Dances Ensemble “Joc”, while on March 5, Alex Calancea Band will give a spring concert intended for music lovers.

On March 6, the Youth Orchestra of Adriano Marian will present a symphonic-jazz performance, while on March 7, the public is invited to a concert by Zdob și Zdub band. Vali Boghean Band will give a recital on March 8, while “Lăutarii” Orchestra will perform on March 9. The festival will be closed on March 10 by a concert by ensembles of the National Philharmonic.

The organizers voiced hope that the pandemic situation will be favorable and the halls could be filled by observing the imposed sanitary norms.

The festival’s budget is of 2.3 million lei. The money will be used to organize 19 concerts in Chisinau and 15 concerts in other localities of the country.

Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan said that he and his Romanian counterpart discussed the possibility of staging the festival in Romania too as from next year given that the martsishors was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. “We can hold a common, broad Martsishor Festival. It is a tradition of the Republic of Moldova that deserves to be multiplied and this festival should be wider in scale and should have a bright future,” stated the minister, noting that a Martsishor Fair will be staged this year in the square of the National Palace, where the Christmas Fair was set up earlier. The event is to be opened on February 24.
