Shortly after Lib-Dem leader Vlad Filat accused Democrat vice-president Vlad Plahotniuc of being 'The Puppeteer', Democrat president Marian Lupu reacted to the allegation. “I don't rule out the possibility that this could be a preparatory step to change the configuration of the current government and replace it with a PLDM-PCRM coalition”, Lupu told reporters, as quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “I think this was an outburst of strong emotions which were kept hidden until now. I believe that everything that happens now and, probably, will continue to happen in the future, are in line with this course of reasoning. This campaign that started long ago, at the end of July last year, with the involvement of (Sergiu) Mocanu and his (Antimafia) team, was devised and orchestrated by Mr. Filat. This is absolutely obvious”, said Marian Lupu, adding that everyone was free to make arrangements for political configurations. During the campaign preceding the recent local elections, Vlad Filat made often references to a so-called 'Puppeteer', a man with a great deal of influence in Moldova's political and business life who allegedly pulled many strings from behind the scenes. In particular, Filat accused the Puppeteer of being behind the defection of Mihai Godea, a senior Lib-Dem member, in the middle of the campaign. He promised to disclose the Puppeteer's name after the elections.
