The leader of the Democratic Party, Speaker Marian Lupu said the theft of the US$120 million from Banca de Economii (BEM) by releasing delinquent loans would have been impossible without the contribution of the then president of the bank Grigore Gachikevich and without the consent of the superiors, Info-Prim Neo reports. “A sum of US$120 million was stolen from Banca de Economii. This represents almost 10% of the 2012 state budget and almost 15% of the social insurance budget from which pensions are paid,” Marian Lupu said in the program “In Profunzime” on Pro TV Chisinau channel. According to the Democratic leader, without the contribution and co-participation of Grigore Gachikevich, this thing wouldn’t have been possible. Marian Lupu also suggested that in a bank in which the state holds 56% of the shares such schemes couldn’t have been implemented by the president without the consent of the superiors. Marian Lupu also said that both the Prosecutor’s Office and the parliamentary commission of inquiry are to establish who took part in this theft and who is to blame must be jailed.
