Marian Lupu - first registered candidate for presidency

The leader of the Liberal Party of Moldova (PDM) Marian Lupu is the first registered candidate for President of Moldova. The required documents were examined at the first meeting of the special commission for the organization of the election of the head of state on Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports. Marian Lupu was put forward by the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), which consists of four parliamentary parties – the PLDM, PL, PDM and AMN. Twenty-six of the 53 members of the AEI signed in support of his candidacy. Under the law, at least two candidates must be proposed for head of state for the vote to take place. At least 15 MPs must give their support to a candidate. A member of Parliament can support only one person. The previous time, before the dissolution of the seventeenth legislature, only the PCRM fielded candidates for presidency for the two votes - Zinaida Grecianyi – Stanislav Groppa and Zinaida Grecianyi – Andrei Neguta. This time, the Communists say they will not propose candidates and will not vote in favor of Lupu. The Parliament decided that the vote to elect the head of state will be held on October 23. The deadline for the submission of proposals for selecting the candidates is October 17, 24.00. According to the legislation, the President is elected by 61 votes of the 101 MPs. The AEI needs eight more votes to elect the head of state.
