The parliamentary elections of this autumn will represent a battle between two geopolitical vectors – the European one and the Eastern one, the chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu said in the program “Place for Dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.

The leader of the PDM stated that the doctrines of parties will not play a special role in the coming elections. “The people are not interested in doctrines. The struggle will be for the future course of the country,” he said, noting that the election campaign will be one of the most difficult campaigns.

Marian Lupu said that if they enter the new legislature, the PDM will insist on returning to the unexamined bills put forward by the Democrats. “We will return to the bills concerning the replacement of the pension indexation model, the payment of health policy by working students and pensions and other matters so as to ensure social equity. Regretfully, our colleges from the coalition didn’t give us their support, but we hope we will enjoy support in the new legislature,” he stated.

Marian Lupu underlined that they will plead for solving the problem related to the election of the head of state. “There is a system problem. The head of state is either elected directly by the people or Parliament should agree models to gradually reduce the number of votes of MPs for voting in the head of state,” he said.

As to the primary held by the PDM for choosing the party’s candidates for Parliament, Marian Lupu said they employed a Western model, but risked a lot in the conditions existing in Moldova. “I cannot say that our level of political culture is high and thus we took a big risk. Fortunately, the primary was a success,” he stated.
