March on occasion of 99th anniversary of union of 1918

The Centenary Alliance, which includes unionist organizations, on December 2 will mount a march on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of the union of December 1, 1918 and the constitution of the united Romanian state as a result. The event will start from the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great at 2pm. The participants will march along Banulescu Bodoni St and Mateevici St, will go by the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, where the union of Bessarabia and Romania was voted on March 27, 1918, and will then go along Sfatul Tarii St up to Stefan cel Mare Blvd and will turn to Europe Square, where a rally will be staged.

Ion Leashchenko, chairman of the National Unity Bloc “BUN”, in a news conference at IPN on December 1 said that December 1, when the National Day of Romania is celebrated, for Bessarabia is an important day. He called on the people to join in the march in a large number. “We must tell everyone that the future of the Republic of Moldova is Romanian and European. We must transmit a message of cohesion, of unity to all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, that we want the union. It is our duty to become involved and to reunite the Romanian nation,” stated Ion Leashchenko.

“In the developed countries, it is something normal to take to the streets to demand rights. As our state claims to be embracing the European values, the authorities should listen to our voice when we have an aspiration. I call on all those who believe that the Republic of Moldova can have a future only alongside Romania to come to the monument to Stephan the Great tomorrow,” said BUN deputy chairman Oleg Chicu.

Vlad Biletski, chairman of the public association “UNIREA - ODIP”, said that tricolor flags and ribbons and calendars with famous personalities who promoted the Romanian ideal will be distributed in the event. “The day of December 1 is a holiday not only for Romanians and for those who embrace the Romanian values. It is a holiday for everyone,” he stated.

“We united for the centenary so as to work together next year, to convince the people that the union is for their benefit,” said Vitalie Prisacaru, deputy chairman of the civic movement “Tinerii Moldovei” (“Moldova’s Youth”).

Igor Budeanu, deputy chairman of “Tinerii Moldovei”, said they prepared a series of events for the next year’s anniversary so as to make sure that there are over 1 million unionist Moldovan voters, who would support the union, by the end of 2018.
