A 67-year-old man was sentenced to four years in jail for fatally hitting a pedestrian by his car and leaving the place of the accident. It happened in July on the Fălești-Sculeni road, not far from Măgureanca village, IPN reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office said that the driver ignored the road traffic regulations and didn’t take action to reduce the speed or to stop so as not to endanger road traffic safety. As a result, he struck a man and passed over him with his car, driving away.

The culprit admitted his guilt. He had been in remand detention until the conviction sentence took effect.

He will serve his sentence in a semi-closed jail and will be banned from driving. The sentence is not final and can be challenged in the Balti Appeals Court.
