A 30-year-old man from Ungheni district was sentenced to eight years in prison after he attacked his mother and her partner with a knife. The woman was wounded in the leg and the man was stabbed in the abdomen, IPN reports.

According to the Ungheni Prosecutor's Office, the incident occurred on October 25, 2024 in the home of the defendant's mother, after a family quarrel. The man was under the influence of alcohol. The forensic examination showed that the woman suffered a cut wound on her left knee, which was classed as a minor injury, while the cohabitant's injuries were considered serious.

The man admitted his guilt. He is not at his first criminal offense and was previously convicted of theft and hooliganism.

The Ungheni Court decided that the man will serve his sentence in a semi-closed prison.

The sentence can be appealed within 15 days to the Chisinau Court of Appeals.
