A man from Edineț wanted to set fire to his mother and aunt after splashing them with gasoline. The defendant was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted murder, IPN reports.

According to prosecutors, it happened on the night of September 21, 2024, while the 36-year-old man was in his mother's home. The defendant took a bottle of gasoline, splashed the women and tried to set them on fire with a lighter.

As the lighter did not emit a spark, the victims managed to flee into the street. Subsequently, the man set fire to the bedroom of the house, broke a window and left the scene.

At the hearing, the defendant partially admitted his guilt. The man will be in pre-trial detention until the sentence becomes final.
