A man aged 69 from Ungheni district was sentenced to 15 years in jail for murdering his wife. He will serve his time in a maximum security prison, IPN reports, with reference to the Prosecutor General’s Office. .

According to the indictment, the man, while being at his domicile in Ungheni district in February, suffocated his wife in unknown circumstances. He pleaded not guilty. He said that he didn’t sleep with the victim that night and doesn’t know what happened. He heard cries, noise and when he went to the room where his wife was, he found her dead. He tried to massage her neck to save her, but all in vain.

The sentence is not definitive and can be challenged in the Chisinau Appeals Court within 15 days.
