A 39-year-old man from Rezina district was sentenced to 13 years in prison for domestic violence that led to the death of his cohabitant. The sentence was pronounced by the Rezina branch of the Orhei Court on November 20, IPN reports, with reference to the Rezina district prosecutor's office.

The murder took place on February 28, 2024, outside the built-up area of a village in the district. Sick with jealousy, the man repeatedly hit the 40-year-old woman with his fists, feet and a metal bar, both in the car in which they were and on the road.

The forensic report confirmed that the woman suffered serious injuries, including fractures and hemorrhage, which led to her death a few hours later, after she was brought home.

The defendant admitted his guilt. He has a criminal record for other acts of violence. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
