A 61-year-old man was struck mortally by a car running on the Chisinau-Ocnița route last night. The man reportedly appeared before the train unexpectedly.

Ocnița Police Inspectorate press officer Svetlana Talpă has told IPN that the train was driven by an employee of Moldova’s Railways aged 52 from Ocnița district. As a result of the impact, the 61-year-old man died on the spot.

Legal action was taken in this case.

Sources in the Lipnic mayor’s office have told IPN that the man was divorced and didn’t have a family. His child is in his wife’s care. He suffered from health problems and had bad hearing. Suicide is among the examined versions.

A similar case happened last week. On the night of June 3, a 25-year-old man from Vatra town was hit fatally by a train near the Ghidighici station. According to the local authorities, the young man wasn’t under the supervision of social services. His parents said that he suffered from depression and left home on the night of the accident.
