The main directions of the Moldovan-American cooperation and the priorities of the strategic dialogue between the two states were discussed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Washington on June 25. The two officials assessed the situation concerning regional security in Eastern Europe and highlighted the importance of the Moldova - U.S. cooperation and of the fight against external interference risks, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, the Premier expressed his gratitude for the constant assistance provided by the United States in doing structural reforms and in promoting the democratic values in the Republic of Moldova, saying the continuation of the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU and holding of transparent parliamentary elections this autumn are among the priorities.
Pavel Filip also thanked the United States for its support in the Transnistrian settlement process, which helped achieve progress in the 5+2 format talks.
He reaffirmed the Moldovan authorities’ decision to intensify cooperation on subjects related to the reformation of the national defense system, consolidation of energy security and cooperation in the commercial-economic sector.
For his part, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo agreed to maintain an active dialogue with Moldovan officials in the field of regional security.
