Maia Sandu welcomes European Parliament’s resolution requesting opening of accession negotiations for Moldova

President Maia Sandu says that today the Republic of Moldova has once again received confirmation that it is expected in the great European family. In a resolution adopted just recently, the European Parliament requested the start of EU accession negotiations by the end of 2023 and noted Moldova’s importance for a united and strong Europe.

President Maia Sandu declared that Moldova belongs in the European Union and that this is demanded by Moldovan citizens. “Our country’s institutions are working towards this goal and Moldova has all the support of the European states to become a full member of the EU. European Moldova is the path chosen by our citizens. We will say this out loud, in one voice, on May 21, at the People’s Assembly”, the president was quoted in a press release issued by her Office.

Maia Sandu thanked the European officials that appreciated Moldova’s contribution to ensuring stability and peace in the region. The president added that the state institutions will fulfill all the recommendations of the European Commission, so that Moldova is ready to start accession negotiations.

The European Parliament passed a resolution requesting the start of the accession negotiations by the end of 2023, after Moldova will have fulfilled the nine recommendations formulated by the European Commission.
