Moldova’s partnership with the European Union is a success for everyone and the accession to the EU depends, equally, on everyone, said incumbent President Maia Sandu, who is running for a new term, supported by the Party of Action and Solidarity. She promises to prepare the country for accession to the European Union by 2030, IPN reports.
“Since I became President, I have pursued an active domestic policy and a foreign policy guided by the national interest. All the state institutions have stepped up their efforts and have not allowed destabilization in our country. We have taken the country out of international isolation and we have advanced in fulfilling the most important peace project for the Republic of Moldova – accession to the European Union,” said Maia Sandu.
The candidate fully assumes the objective to ensure that Moldova is ready to become a member of the European Union by 2030. The EU has secured the longest peace on the continent in more than 70 years. No EU member country has been militarily attacked and has not had war on its territory. Moldova also needs to become a member of the EU as soon as possible. We have a duty to safeguard the country and protect it from dangers,” said the candidate.
As a President, Maia Sandu undertakes to continue to act to ensure peace and harmony. “We will continue the open and active foreign policy so that our country has as many reliable friends as possible, continues to be heard and respected all over the world, both in the West and in the East. We will create a program to promote our national culture and traditions and this will finance events staged in the country and in the diaspora,” noted the PAS candidate.
The Republic of Moldova applied for EU membership in March 2022 and was granted candidate status in June 2022. The first Intergovernmental Conference to start negotiations between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova took place in June 2024.
