Maia Sandu: We need to make changes in government team

Incumbent President Maia Sandu, who is running for a new term in office, admits that Cabinet reshuffles are possible until the end of this year. During an electoral debate organized by Teleradio-Moldova Company, Maia Sandu said that there are many outstanding issues in the Cabinet’s work and this will lead to reshuffles in the near future. If some members of the government team broke the law, the state institutions are encouraged to take a stand and penalize any abuse, IPN reports.

The head of state admitted that some of the votes against the October 20 referendum are the votes of citizens who expressed their dissatisfaction with the PAS government. "Certainly, there were protest votes and this is normal. We respect and recognize the reasons for this protest vote. The problem resides in the bought votes, not in the protest votes. Democracy is about support and also about the protest vote. Yes, we made a series of mistakes even if our intentions were good and we experienced a number of crises. There were people who acted better and people who acted less well, for different reasons," stated Maia Sandu

The PAS candidate admitted that Cabinet reshuffles are necessary and specified that they could take place by the end of 2024. She encouraged the state institutions to act if there are government team members in conflict with the law. "Where there is a problem of integrity, the state institutions must have a say. I never even thought of restricting the work of state institutions when it comes to integrity. And they are still free today to go and put handcuffs on one or the other, if there are reasons. Yes, I think we need to make changes in the government team. I heard the citizens. We had discussions in many localities. We heard what the demands are and, in particular, in which areas the people expect things to be done better. I believe that this must happen by the end of this year," said President Sandu.

The PAS candidate called on all the citizens to go to the polls on November 3 and to freely and consciously exercise their right to vote. She said that the upcoming election is crucial for the European future of the Republic of Moldova. "The fact that we are disappointed, and I admit that there are disappointed people, does not mean that we have to set fire to the country. It does not mean that we should hand over the country to thieves. We fought hard to drive the thieves out of government. Remember how much effort we had to make to get rid of them. Yes, it's a big problem that they don't stay in prison, but at least they are not in command. They are not in public office to share their money. And this is an argument for everyone, regardless of whether you like me or not. At the parliamentary elections, everyone will be able to vote for the party they like," stated Maia Sandu.

At the electoral debate staged by Teleradio-Moldova Company, Maia Sandu's opponent in the runoff elections Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is supported by the PSRM, did not show up. "For the second round, the electoral team clearly decided that Alexandr Stoianoglo will not participate in the debates organized by the television channels affiliated to the government," said MP of the PSRM Adela Răileanu.
