Maia Sandu: Transnistrian conflict can be resolved only after the withdrawal of Russian troops

The Republic of Moldova is not happy to have a foreign army on its territory, which has been there illegally for decades, says President Maia Sandu. According to the head of state, the authorities in Chisinau want the Transnistrian conflict to be resolved, but only under peaceful conditions, IPN reports.

"If there will be a plan that will bring a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine and, of course, if there will be a realizable plan that will allow a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, we will be there to put this issue on the agenda", Maia Sandu told a press conference.

There can be no reintegration of the two banks of the Dniester as long as the Russian Federation does not withdraw its troops from the Transnistrian region, the president said.

"Demilitarization and withdrawal of troops is the first condition for resolving the Transnistrian conflict. Another important condition is respect for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova. If you see, certain steps are being taken, including this year, to harmonize the systems. We are talking here about the tax system and the banking system must follow", the head of state said.
