Maia Sandu signs decree to name Ion Munteanu acting prosecutor general

President Maia Sandu signed a decree by which Ion Munteanu, prosecutor of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, was appointed acting prosecutor general, IPN reports.

Ion Munteanu was proposed for acting prosecutor general by the Superior Council of Prosecutors in its October 11 meeting after Dumitru Robu stopped holding this post on October 6, 2022.

The law on the prosecution service provides that the post of prosecutor general cannot be held on an interim basis for more than 12 months. When this period expires, the Superior Council of Prosecutors decides if the acting prosecutor general should remain or another person should be proposed.

“I thank Mister Dumitru Robu for his work. I highly appreciate the results he achieved and I hope a lot that he will take up a responsible job in the prosecution service,” Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco posted on his Facebook page.

Recently, it was a year since Dumitru Robu took over as acting prosecutor general following the suspension of Alexandr Stoianoglo from the post of prosecutor general.
