President Maia Sandu condemns the terrorist attack that took place at the Christmas Market in Magdeburg, Germany, where a car rammed into the crowd. At least four people died, including a child, and more than 200 people were injured, IPN reports.
"I am deeply saddened by the tragic event at the Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany. My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. What should have been a time of joy and unity has turned into sadness. I strongly condemn violence in all forms", Maia Sandu wrote on social network X.
The German public broadcaster MDR, writes that a car crashed into a crowd at the Christmas market in Magdeburg on Friday evening. Four people died in the attack, including a young child, and more than 200 were injured, many of them seriously. Several commemorative events will take place in Magdeburg on Saturday. Magdeburg's Christmas market has been closed and will no longer be open, according to local authorities.
According to the BBC, the suspect has been arrested. He is a 50-year-old Saudi national who arrived in Germany in 2006 and worked as a doctor. A preliminary investigation suggests the alleged attacker acted alone.
