If I am dismissed, I will withdraw from the public sphere and from the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and will not continue my political career, Minister of Education Maia Sandu said in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.
“I will accept no public post anymore. I’m very tired. I also need to remedy my financial situation. The PLDM didn’t form me. I decided to join the party only because I was supported in the education reform. Officially, I’m not a party member. The current Government may be dismissed. I will accept to remain only as minister of education so as to continue the reforms. Another minister could stop the initiated reforms. I would like very much the team to remain and to continue the reforms after I leave. Such reforms are done in 4-5 years,” said Maia Sandu.
The minister also said that exerting public pressure is the only solution to make the state institutions work. “It’s hard to believe that the state institutions want to really elucidate the case of Banca de Economii. The pressure of society is the only solution. But two weeks are not enough. More time and continuous pressure on the part of the population are needed for things to develop slowly. The Government cannot do much in this case. The Prosecutor’s Office, the National Anticorruption Center and the National Bank are independent institutions and the Government cannot tell them what to do” she stated.
Asked about a potential merger of the higher education institutions, Maia Sandu noted that this issue is being discussed. “A commission of experts was set up to work on the optimization of universities. It is a proposal formulated within an EU project,” she said.
