Maia Sandu congratulates Ukraine on Independence Day: A symbol of resistance and hope

Moldova is looking with deep respect towards Ukraine, not only as a neighbor, but as a symbol of resistance and hope, says Moldova’s President Maia Sandu in her congratulatory message dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine.

“Today Ukraine celebrates its Independence Day with dignity. Independence is when citizens can decide their own future, when they have the freedom to build their own country as they see it. The Ukrainians, through their boundless courage and determination, remind us of this truth every day”, reads the message.

Maia Sandu goes on by expressing gratitude for the strength with which Ukraine protects peace and security in the region, thus becoming a bastion of freedom for millions of Europeans.

“Today, my hope is that peace will return to the homes of Ukrainians as soon as possible, and that Ukraine’s Independence Day will never be overshadowed by war and suffering”, writes Maia Sandu.

Thirty-two years ago today Ukraine proclaimed its independence from the Soviet Union.
