The Central Election Commission is politically controlled by Igor Dodon and acts in the interests of the Party of Socialists, President Maia Sandu said, referring to the electoral authority’s decision to establish 150 polling stations in the diaspora for the July 11 elections. She denied the accusations that she campaigns in favor of the Party of Action and Solidarity, IPN reports.
President Sandu described the CEC’s decision to establish 150 polling stations outside the country after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its readiness to ensure the organization of the electoral process in 190 polling stations.
“It seems strange to me that after asking the people to preregister so as to be better informed about their place of stay, after having concrete and fresh information from the presidential elections and knowing where problems were encountered, the CEC comes with this decision that does not improve the situation at all. It’s clear that Igor Dodon is afraid of the vote of the diaspora, while the CEC acts in the interests of Dodon and the PSRM,” Maia Sandu stated in the talk show “Prime Time” on Prime channel.
Also, Maia Sandu denied the accusations that ambassadors accredited to the Republic of Moldova interfere in the election campaign.
“These people want the Republic of Moldova to become a country with an advanced democracy and in time supported the strengthening of the state intuitions through a lot of projects. So, it’s clear that these people just want free and fair elections, authentic democracy. Igor Dodon does not have what to say to the people and tries to scare them with this scarecrow,” stated President Sandu.
She also denied the accusations that she promotes the image of the PAS during her trips to Moldova’s districts that are financed with public funds and during her trips abroad.
“I promised to the people I will work for them and do not intend to stay in the office for three months as we will have elections in the Republic of Moldova. I never campaigned for a party. I call on the people to go and vote for honest people as only this way we can achieve our objectives.”
In the same connection, Maia Sandu said she wants better cooperation between the presidential institution, the Government and Parliament and voiced hope that this cooperation will be ensured after the snap parliamentary elections of July 11.
