The authorities of the Kingdom of the Netherlands have, as of December 9, put in place an increased control regime at all national border crossing points for a period of six months. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) in Chisinau advises citizens to inform themselves about the new border crossing conditions, IPN reports.
The decision aims to prevent illegal migration and combat human trafficking. The Royal Military Police will carry out random checks at some 800 land and air border crossing points between the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. Controls include checks on international trains and high-risk flights.
While no physical barriers will be introduced, vehicles will be randomly directed to checkpoints. Travelers are advised to carry valid identification documents.
The MAE notes that these measures do not imply the introduction of a visa regime and the authorities of the Netherlands will try to minimize the impact on economic and commuter traffic.
