The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) of the Republic of Moldova has dismissed accusations made in the annual report of the Russian Federation's Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding alleged discrimination against Russian citizens and the promotion of Russophobia in Moldova, IPN reports.
"These claims are baseless and aim to divide society", stated MAE spokesperson Tatiana Barac.
The ministry emphasized that the Republic of Moldova fully respects the fundamental rights and freedoms of all citizens, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or language. "Unlike the Russian Federation, Moldovan authorities adhere to the principles of the rule of law and international norms for human rights protection", Barac clarified.
Regarding statements in the report suggesting risks of a scenario similar to Ukraine's, the MAE in Chisinau condemned these allegations. "Such provocative declarations do not contribute to a secure and constructive regional dialogue but instead fuel tensions and incite hatred. We urge citizens not to be manipulated by these malicious narratives", added the MAE representative.
Moldova’s diplomatic corps reiterated the country's commitment to peaceful dialogue and constructive cooperation between nations, Barac emphasized.
Recently, Russia disseminated false claims about the risk of an escalation in Moldova. Specifically, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service alleged in a press statement that Chisinau was preparing a military operation in the Transnistrian region, among other accusations.
The analysis of this document, its purpose, and impact was discussed with experts during the public debate, "What Are Russian Lies Banking On? How Is Chisinau Responding?" organized by IPN News Agency. Experts in Chisinau noted that through such hybrid propaganda narratives, Russia acknowledges its interests in the Republic of Moldova. The stakes of these falsehoods, they argue, are the parliamentary elections, which should serve as a serious warning for Moldova. The full debate on this topic can be viewed here.
