MAE on the list of citizens allegedly residing illegally in the USA

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) does not comment on the internal documents of other states that have reached the public domain," stated the MAE in response to the emergence of a list allegedly containing Moldovan citizens residing illegally in the United States. The institution emphasized that U.S. authorities are the only ones authorized to provide official data on this matter, IPN reports.

The MAE clarified that it does not maintain a nominal record of Moldovan citizens in this situation and has no information regarding the existence of an official list in this regard.

The authorities in Chisinau also stressed that freedom of movement is a right guaranteed to all citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Once a person leaves the country, they are not legally required to disclose their whereabouts.

Furthermore, individuals are not obligated to register with any of Moldova’s diplomatic missions or consular offices abroad.

The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Washington stands ready to provide consular assistance to Moldovan citizens facing legal difficulties in the United States.
