MAC 2012: 6 thousand cannabis plants and 2kg of marijuana seized
The Moldovan drug enforcement agency discovered more than 6,000 illegally planted cannabis plants and over 2kg of marijuana as part of an operation going under the codename MAC 2012. All the drugs and plants have been annihilated, according to a MoI press release, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the police, a cannabis plantation counting around 2,000 plants was found in Bibilicenii Vechi village in Sangerei district. The cannabis was camouflaged by sunflowers. The anti-drugs agency has estimated the plants’ price at around 3.6 million lei. The owner of the land, who lives in the same village, now faces up to 15 years in prison.
In a separate case, the police found more than 4,000 plants that grew chaotically in Hartop village’s forest, Leova district. The police investigate to identify those responsible. In both cases the cannabis was burned.
Also during Operation MAC 2012, the anti-drugs agency seized 2 kilograms of marijuana from a 19-year-old man in Falesti town.
Operation MAC 2012 continues until September 30.
