A woman working as tax collector at the mayor’s office of a village from Stefan Voda district is suspected of appropriating about 50,000 lei from the institution’s funds, Info- Prim Neo reports. According to a communiqué from the Ministry of the Interior, the police established that the functionary, who was responsible for collecting taxes from the villagers, did not pay the collected money into the local budget, but used it for personal purposes. In another case, employees of the mayor’s office of a village from Cahul district collected about 110,000 from the population for designing the gas pipe, renovating the aqueduct, laying out the territory of a kindergarten, and paying for the used water. But none of the projects was implemented. Legal cases were started in both of the cases. The persons involved are liable to a fine of up to 20,000 lei or up to six years’ imprisonment.
