Local authorities delay allocation of money for removing mud in Valea Morilor Lake
The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) postponed the examination of the draft decision regarding the allocation of money for cleaning the bed of the lake situated in “Valea Morilor” Park (“Valley of the Mills”). The reason set forth was the need for further consultations on the matter.
The decision, as it is currently drafted, envisages the allocation of an initial sum of 20 mln lei to the Constructions Division for covering the works executed until present. At the same time, there will be approved a total expenditure estimate of 46.2 mln lei for the clean-up of the lake.
The mud extraction planning works performed by the Institute “Acvaproiect” will cost about 3.2 mln lei, the works for designing the recreational area executed by the Institute “Chisinauproiect” – 2.3 mln lei, and the cleaning works carried out by the company “Autocomtrans” – 41.3 mln lei etc.
The works executed on the site so far are assessed at 15 mln lei.
Chisinau Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said earlier that the City Hall is not disposed to spend extra money on the mud removal project in “Valea Morilor” and asked that the works carried out by the contractor be strictly monitored. He ordered even the performance of an audit.
The tender contest for removing the mud was held in June 2007, half a year after the start of the works. The contest was won by “Autocomtrans”, which had already executed a part of the works at that moment.
Recently, the company informed the City Hall that it cannot continue working when there is no money. The lake could fill up with water again if the works are not continued.
