Lilia Dabija: Leușeni-Albița bridge will be fully constructed until 2027

The Leușeni-Albița bridge will fully built, while the Cahul-Oancea and Sculeni-Sculeni bridges will be rehabilitated with the financial support of the Romanian Government. Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Lilia Dabija said the three infrastructure objectives over the Prut will be ready until 2027 and the traffic between the Republic of Moldova and Romania will be eased this way, IPN reports.

The bridge that connects Sculeni in Moldova and Sculeni in Romania was built in 1964. The Cahul-Oancea bridge was built the same year, while the Leușeni –Albița bridge was constructed back in 1958. The minister said the three bridges are in a bad state of repair and need to be urgently rehabilitated.

“The Leușeni-Albița bridge will be a new bridge with two parallel lanes. Each of these bridges was built in the second half of last century and proved their efficiency, but now need to be modernized. As a result of feasibility studies carried out by our Romanian counterparts, it was determined that the bridges need to be rehabilitated or new bridges need to be built to ensure connection between the two banks of the Prut. The rehabilitation of these bridges is aimed at improving the living conditions of citizens as the largest part of the foreign commercial activity of the Republic of Moldova is aimed at the European Union,” Lilia Dabija stated in the program “Common Objective” on TVR Moldova channel.

The minister noted that the three bridges will be rehabilitated and built with funds of the Romanian Government. The funds that will be allocated from the state budget of the Republic of Moldova will go to ensure the adjoining infrastructure.

“In the Government’s meeting, we approved the initiation of negotiations on these three agreements. We will soon negotiate them with the Romanian counterparts and will sign them so that the rehabilitation and construction works with the financial support of the Romanian state are completed until 2027. The Republic of Moldova will cover only the costs associated with the access infrastructure, namely the access road to the three bridges and the work infrastructure of the mates from the Customs Service and the Border Police,” said Lilia Dabija.

The works to reinforce the Giurgiulești-Galați road border bridge were completed last summer, with an investment of about 8 million Romanian lei provided by the Government of Romania.
