Liechtenstein to allocate €100,000 in support of Ukrainian refugees in Moldova

Liechtenstein will provide about €100,000 in support of the Ukrainian refugees who are in the Republic of Moldova. A part of the Ukrainian refugees will be able to travel to Liechtenstein, Dominique Hasler, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education and Sport of this state, announced in a news conference in Chisinau, IPN reports.

In the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova, the officials conferred on the regional security situation generated by the war in Ukraine, the refugee crisis and the socioeconomic effects faced by Moldova in the management of the humanitarian crisis.

Nicu Popescu noted that the projects of the branch of the Liechtenstein Development Service have a positive impact on Moldova’s future as they are intended for the vocational education. The five projects with a budget of €2.8 million are implemented at technical and vocational education institutions in Chisinau and Bălți.

The interlocutors also discussed possibilities of strengthening bilateral cooperation by fostering the commercial and economic relations and developing the legal framework. “We agreed to hasten the signing of the Free Trade Agreement with the states of the European Free Trade Association and proposed accelerating the process of negotiating the agreement on the avoidance of double taxation between the two countries,” stated Nicu Popescu.

He noted that this is the first visit paid by a foreign affairs minister of Liechtenstein the past 11 years and is another sign of solidarity shown by the international community with the Republic of Moldova on the country’s path of reformation and modernization.
