Liberals request CC to clarify President’s rights related to Cabinet appointment

The Liberal Party asked the Constitutional Court (CC) of Moldova to examine an article of the Constitution concerning the appointment of the Cabinet and its members. The Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said the supreme law does not clearly define the President’s rights related to the appointment of Cabinet members, IPN reports.

According to Mihai Ghimpu, the Constitution precisely stipulates the conditions in which the President of Moldova accepts the candidate for judge or how a law should be promoted, but does not clarify what rights the President has in naming Cabinet members. “That’s why the Constitutional Court should clarify these things so that we do not have problems in the future. Until now we haven’t encountered problems in the appointment of the Cabinet or particular ministers. But the new President already started to assert that he will not accept and will not name,” stated the Liberal leader.

Mihai Ghimpu also said that governance is assumed by the parliamentary alliance that forms the Cabinet. The executive assumes responsibility for implementing the government program and this responsibility is thus borne by the parliamentary alliance as well.
