The day of June 28 is a black one in Moldova’s history because on June 28, 1940 the country’s territory was occlude for the second time by the Russians, after the first occupation of 1812, said the leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu. He came together with members and sympathizers of the party to lay flowers at the commemorative plaque in the Great National Assembly Square in sign of mourning, IPN reports.
“Those who occupy always say that they liberate as they cannot explain their occupation. I, by the decree signed in 2010 (when Ghimpu was acting head of state –e.n.), specified that it was occupation, not liberation. The decree was signed based on a study by historians, who proved that it was occupation. The truth cannot be hidden. June 28 is a tragic day as the Romanian people was divided into three states at a time when other nations have one state, one law and enjoy unity,” stated Mihai Ghimpu.
The politician added that owing to the Russian occupation we now do not know our language, traditions and customs, with the fact that the people went through humiliation being the most serious one. “The transformation of the Chisinau street Purcel into Purchenskaya is an additional proof the russification policy,” said the Liberal leader.
Also today, the Political Party “Our Home – Moldova” laid flowers at the monument to Pavel Tkachenko on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Moldova’s liberation from Romanian occupation.
On June 28, 1940, Romania received an ultimatum from the Soviet Union, which demanded evacuating the civil administration and the Romanian army from the territory between the Prut and Nistru and from the northern part of Bucovina within four days or a war will be waged on Romania.
