The Liberal Party (PL) considers that the skirmishes having taken place on October 5 in Balti, as part of the PL caravan for the withdrawing of the Russian army from Moldova, were directed by the Communists Party and were meant to instigate to inter-ethnic hatred between Russians and Moldovans, Info-Prim Neo reports. PL president Mihai Ghimpu told a news conference on October 7 that the ruling party had tried to counter the PL’s manifestation against the Russian military presence in Moldova and to divert the attention from the serious problems of society. PL also considers that the actions of the Balti police and the actions of the Chisinau police, who fined and withdrew the driver licenses of 19 drivers were coordinated by the ruling party, which “makes Russia’s policy”. “We have reached the conclusion that the Russian army and the Communist ruling are two Siamese brothers, mtually supporting each other,” stated the PL deputy chairman Anatol Salaru. According to the PL Chisinau councilor, Ion Ciobanu, members of the Komsomol and a Balti Communist councilor, known as the mentor of the local Komsomolists, were involved in the attack against the Liberals. The chairwoman of the Balti Liberal branch, Tatiana Potanga, has said members of the young guard of the Communists Party were among the youths having attacked the protesters and having vandalized the Caravan cars, who “were scared of a force, of a potential alternative to the regime, and they prepared the action in advance”. Tatiana Potanga has specified she did not expect the police to react and lodged a notification with the Balti police commissariat, asking to probe the incident and to punish the police having shirked from their duty to insure the protesters’ security. The Communists Party has not commented the allegations yet. The chief of the press unit of the Interior Ministry has said the position of the ministry would be made public in the afternoon in a communiqué on the web page of the ministry. On Sunday, October 5, the Liberal Party organized protest actions in Chisinau, Balti and all district centers, asking fro the pullback of the Russian troops from Moldova. Incidents occurred only in Chisinau and Balti.
