Councilor Teo Carnat announced that he decided to leave the Liberal Party and the Liberal faction on the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). He made the announcement in a news conference on February 28, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Teo Carnat, he took the decision to leave the party and the Liberal faction on the CMC because his qualities were appreciated inside the party. “Today I filed an application to the party’s executive bodies, whereby I ask being excluded from the Liberal Party for the following reasons: my conceptions of democracy and human rights do not find reflection in the party’s acts and my qualities weren’t appreciated inside the party. On the contrary, I was marginalized. Therefore, I cannot identify myself with the team that was promoted by the party within the CMC,” said Teo Carnat. He stressed he will remain unaffiliated councilor and will vote for decisions together with the colleagues from the AEI.
Teo Carnat also said that he discussed his defection from the Liberal Party together with the party’s deputy chairman Dorin Chirtoaca. “I discussed only with Dorin Chirtoaca. Nothing happened and thus I decided to withdraw. I did not talk to Mister Ghimpu as he every time convinced me that I should remain and work within the party. He has the power to convince people,” stated the councilor.
Teo Carnat became municipal councilor on the Liberal ticket. He had been a member of the party for three years. In order to be able to work as a councilor, Teo Carnat renounced the post of executive director of the Helsinki Committee in Moldova. He said that he does not yet intend to join another party.
